I Solisti del Vento

an all-round ensemble

I Solisti del Vento is Belgium’s most important wind ensemble. The artistic and professional direction of Francis Pollet made that I Solisti del Vento developed into an ensemble which can match the international top in the field of (chamber) music for winds. The main core unifies top musicians, each of whom acquired the reputation of being a renowned chamber musician as well as a celebrated soloist.

I Solisti del Vento was founded in 1991 succeeding 'Die Harmonie', the wind ensemble that arose from the New Belgian Chamber Orchestra (Nieuw Belgisch Kamerorkest) and played its first concert in 1988. From 1996 onwards, I Solisti del Vento is an autonomous institution that occupies a unique place in the Belgian music scene, partly thanks to the structural support of the Flemish Government. Since 1999, the ensemble resides in the Royal Flemish Conservatory of Antwerp and is campus resident at the Campus of Arts deSingel. In order to guarantee her artistic versatility, I Solisti del Vento has grown into a pliable ensemble, the core of which can be enlarged or curtailed according to the programme to be performed.

artistic operation

The artistic operation of I Solisti del Vento deepens as well as broadens. On the one hand the ensemble is proud of the stylistic versatility, which allows to perform a variety of music genres and styles in a well-considered and musicologically justified way. On the other hand I Solisti del Vento endeavours to unlock the large top repertoire for winds to a broad audience. I Solisti del Vento thus presents her music theatre productions as school shows as well, providing text and audio material which elucidates the musicological and practical background of wind music.

Above all, the ensemble sets itself up as a leading promoter of the wind repertoire and devotes itself to granting an enduring place in the concert repertoire to new, qualitative wind music. For that, I Solisti del Vento attempts to broaden, to enrich and to question the existing repertoire for winds in an aesthetically justified way by means of composition assignments and fresh projects based on the cooperation with artists who represent dramatic arts, dance and visual arts.
