I SOLISTI NextGeneration Artist

From a young age, it was clear that Mathijs Everts (°2002) had a natural flair for rhythm. At the age of six, he was discovered by drum instructor Marc Vrijens, who gave him his first drum lessons. Later, Mathijs began his percussion studies at the music school in Gellik, where he was taught by Wim Slangen and Mieke Buekers.

Between 2014 and 2019, Mathijs served as a regular percussionist for Brassband 'De Grensbewoners' in Smeermaas. With the band, he participated in several Belgian Brassband Championships, achieving success on multiple occasions.

In 2017, Mathijs was admitted to the 'Jong Conservatorium' in Antwerp. There, he received percussion training from Carlo Willems and Koen Wilmaers, General Music Theory from Edwig Abrath, and chamber music instruction from Dirk Proost, Jan de Maeyer, and Nicolas Callot. A year later, Mathijs commenced his studies in classical percussion at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven, under the guidance of Evert van Eynde and Tim Ouderits.

In 2020, he graduated from the Lemmensinstituut and continued his studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. Today, Mathijs is a regular asked percussionist, performing both nationally and internationally. From 2019 to 2021, he was part of the YoungStars program within the I SOLISTI ACADEMY. Starting this season, I SOLISTI honors Mathijs with the title of NextGeneration Artist.

“The NextGeneration Artist program is very intriguing because it offers me abundant performance opportunities, which aligns perfectly with my future career aspirations. It allows me to gain invaluable experience and exposure in the field I intend to pursue professionally.”
