PINOKKIO

(This production will be performed in Dutch)

The Adventures of Pinocchio is an Italian fairy tale that was written in a different time and world. However, beyond the entertaining escapades of the puppet, it holds deeper significance for today. It is a story about the journey of growing up. A wooden puppet aspires to become a "real boy." Pinocchio is guided by a wise cricket who serves as an important advisor. At the beginning of the tale, he impulsively throws a hammer at the cricket for scolding him, but later on, he follows the cricket's wisdom throughout his adventures. Did the cricket evade the hammer? Or is it Pinocchio's conscience that shadows him? This enchanting tale resonates with both young and old, as it portrays the puppet's quest to think for himself and break free from his puppet strings. He must take control of his own destiny.

Pinocchio is not your typical fairy tale character, simply good or evil. He is not a hero either. Instead, he is a character who makes mistakes, just like ordinary people, and learns and grows from them. As he transforms into a "real boy," he also gains the ability to physically mature, breaking away from his childlike limitations.

Beyond the fairy tale, the story of Pinocchio parallels the journey of the YoungStars, who find themselves navigating the complexities of an adult world as children and young adults. During their path with I SOLISTI, they not only mature into accomplished musicians but also develop into well-rounded individuals. Gradually evolving into "real boys" and "real girls," they become the perfect musicians to embody and interpret this timeless tale. The innovative music for this performance was composed by our Artist in Residence, Frederik Neyrinck, while the narrative was skillfully adapted by MakerSpace artist, Michèle Delagrange. Guided by Jan Smets, the YoungStars ensemble brings this captivating story to life.
